When it took effect
RM1,700/month applied first to employers with 5 or more workers (and professional firms) from 1 February 2025.
From 1 August 2025, it became mandatory for every employer — including small businesses with fewer than five workers. There are no more deferments.
Daily and hourly rates
For a standard 26-day work month, RM1,700 works out to roughly RM65.40 per day. The exact hourly rate depends on your contracted hours; the monthly figure is what the law sets.

Paying below the minimum wage is an offence under the National Wages Consultative Council Act 2011, with fines of up to RM10,000 per affected employee.
